Construction news countdown: Ramtech shortlisted for awards success
ANTICIPATION is building for the prestigious Construction News awards – with Ramtech in the running for the highly coveted ‘Best Use of Technology’ honour.
Our Water Leak Detection Solution (WLDS), which launched in November 2022, has been highlighted for its innovative safety technology credentials in use at Heathrow Airport. Showcasing its exceptional escape of water protection, the WLDS solution was installed within a successful terminal renovation scheme in collaboration with global construction firm Mace Group.
Deployed over an extended period, the WLDS was in place whilst dilapidated water valves were replaced in Terminal 4 – a busy and expansive part of the airport – which covers more than 105,000 square metres and welcomes more than 20,000 passengers each year. Adam Jurka, sales manager at Ramtech, said: “Water loss and escape of water insurance claims is a huge problem within the construction industry, so we’re delighted to have our technology, which answers such a huge industry concern, being recognised as a contender for this prestigious award.

“Our WLDS only launched to market late last year, having undergone a successful trial and development phase, so its hugely rewarding to see it already having a positive effect.
“Research is out there to showcase the damage water loss can have on contractors’ reputations and assets, but really our work was born from the everyday conversations we are having with project managers and health and safety experts on site. They were very much part of the development period and their concerns and thoughts all fed into creating this successful product.

Combined with WES, REACT and our integrated product suite, we’ve now helped solve two of the biggest safety issues on construction sites.
“Combined with WES, REACT and our integrated product suite, we’ve now helped solve two of the biggest safety issues on construction sites – fire and water – in one easy to apply and install package. We can’t wait to see what the future holds, with the solution already deployed across the UK.”
The Association of British Insurers placed commercial water damage losses at £981m in 2019, reinforcing the call for technology innovators such as Ramtech to develop a system that can bridge what is a huge gap in the construction market. The WLDS answers a universal escape of water problem for the construction industry by offering an automatic, 24/7 monitoring solution, which can detect if moisture reaches the various nodes along the technology’s detection tapes or cables. It then sends an alert via data when combined with our REACT platform – a cloud-based app solution used by personnel to raise alerts on-site.
Heathrow Airport is just one of several projects used to successfully trial the product ahead of wider launch to market, with Mace Group pointing to a number of advantages in its use. Danny Russell, associate director at Mace Group, said: “The potential for water leaks to go unseen on vast projects, such as Heathrow, poses a major threat. By deploying Ramtech’s water solution, we were able to mitigate this risk both quickly and easily. “The ability to identify incidents early on and put them right before any significant impact is caused helps us ensure our projects are delivered on time and on budget.”
The results of the Construction News Awards 2023 will be revealed on 13 July 2023 during a ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London. To follow the evening’s results, visit https://twitter.com/CN_Awards
