Protecting one of the world's largest motorsport events demands more than traditional fire watch. As temporary structures rise, valuable race equipment arrives and thousands of people move on-site, fire protection must be deployed quickly, adapt to constant change and operate reliably around the clock.

For the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ramtech’s WES3 wireless fire detection system delivered continuous protection across critical event infrastructure, helping organisers safeguard people, assets and operations from build-up through to race day.

Fire Safety Against the Clock

Every year, the 24 Hours of Le Mans transforms into a vast temporary city, with team paddocks, hospitality suites and critical infrastructure constructed in the weeks leading up to the race. For the 2026 event, organisers required a fire protection solution that could match the pace and complexity of the build.

With 14 high-value team paddocks, the Genesis Hospitality Building, temporary electrical installations and millions of dollars’ worth of race equipment on site, maintaining continuous fire protection was critical. Traditional fire watch patrols alone would have been labour-intensive, reactive and difficult to manage across an environment where layouts changed daily and installation windows were extremely tight.

Flexibility was one of the key reasons we chose Ramtech's WES system. For an event of this scale, we needed a solution that could deliver both reliability and ease of deployment, allowing us to adapt quickly as requirements changed. The wireless technology simplified installation while helping us maintain the high safety standards expected at Le Mans.

300 Devices, No Cables

Working alongside event infrastructure specialist iEvent and integration partner Prodomo, Ramtech Global deployed a temporary WES3 wireless fire detection system across the Le Mans circuit. More than 300 wireless devices, including smoke detectors, heat detectors and manual call points, were installed to protect the 14 team paddocks and the Genesis Hospitality Building. The solution was supplied on a one-month rental basis, providing 24/7 automated fire monitoring throughout both the event build-up and live race phases.

Unlike traditional wired systems, WES3’s wireless mesh technology required no cabling, allowing devices to be installed quickly and relocated within minutes as temporary structures were erected, layouts evolved and operational requirements changed. This flexibility enabled organisers to maintain continuous protection without delaying the event schedule.

The customer was initially looking for a solution to improve fire safety but was not aware that an automated system like WES existed. From the first demonstration, it became clear that the flexibility and functionality of the system were perfectly suited to an event environment where requirements change daily. This project proves how temporary fire protection can evolve beyond traditional fire watch approaches.

Protection That Kept Pace

The deployment successfully delivered continuous fire detection across one of the world’s most demanding temporary event environments, helping safeguard thousands of personnel, temporary infrastructure and millions of dollars’ worth of race team assets. By replacing the limitations of manual fire watch with intelligent wireless fire detection, organisers gained a flexible, scalable solution that adapted alongside the event. The ability to reposition devices as the site evolved ensured fire protection remained effective throughout every stage of the build and race.

Following successful deployments at both the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, WES3 is demonstrating how temporary wireless fire detection is reshaping fire safety at major sporting events. As venues become larger and more complex, automated wireless systems are providing event organisers with a safer, faster and more efficient alternative to traditional fire watch practices.

The environment at a modern Grand Prix or endurance race closely mirrors the extreme complexities of major commercial construction and industrial sites, massive temporary structures, constantly evolving site layouts, tight installation windows and millions of dollars in critical team assets. Managing these risks through manual fire watch alone is increasingly seen as a reactive approach. We're seeing a fundamental shift as leading event organisers embrace automated wireless safety technology to protect people and temporary infrastructure.
