Champion in fire safety at the Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are just around the corner, with the opening ceremony set to take place on Friday July 26th, 2024, in Paris.

Ensuring the safety of the infrastructure is a priority, which is why Ramtech’s WES3 wireless fire system has played a crucial role in maintaining fire safety during the construction of three projects: the Olympic and Paralympic Village, the Adidas Arena and the Aquatics Centre.

Olympic and Paralympic Village

The Olympic and Paralympic Village was inaugurated on February 29th of this year and will host athletes during the Paris 2024 Games. Designed to meet exemplary environmental standards, it aims to provide top-notch services for athletes and a sustainable legacy for the Seine-Saint Denis community.

Its opening is scheduled for Thursday, July 18th and it will accommodate more than 14,000 athletes and entourage members participating in the Olympic Games, but also another 8,000 athletes and entourage members for the Paralympic Games. This project goes beyond the sporting event, as the Village is intended to create a new part of the city for the residents of Seine Saint Denis. The project spans three parts of Paris: Saint-Denis, Saint Ouen and L’Île-Saint-Denis. After the Games, the Village will become a true neighborhood.

During construction, Ramtech’s WES3 wireless fire alarm system ensured early fire detection and rapid response, crucial for the safety of the workers and the site. The wireless capabilities of WES3 offered flexibility, essential for the dynamic construction environment. The system enhanced fire safety across the construction site, preventing potential fire incidents and ensuring the project stayed on track to meet its competition deadlines.

We are proud that our WES3 system has been installed at three different locations for the Olympics. Its advanced fire safety capabilities have been essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of these high-profile projects.

Adidas Arena

The Adidas Arena is a cultural and sports facility built for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This multifunctional space was inaugurated on February 11th, 2024. Located north of Paris, near Porte de la Chapelle, it was designed to host badminton, para-badminton, rhythmic gymnastics and para-lifting events. Moreover, it is also equipped for many other events, such as basketball matches and the Street League Skateboarding Championship. With over 3,000 square meters, it will continue to serve as a multi-purpose venue post-Olympics.

The construction of the arena, characterized by its sustainable design using recycled materials and extensive vegetation, benefited from WES3’S eco-friendly, wireless fire alarm system. Furthermore, WES3 provided robust fire protection during construction, ensuring the safety of workers and the timely progress of the project, while aligning with the Arena’s sustainability goals.

Aquatics Centre

This multifunctional space includes a 50-meter pool and a diving pool. Capable of hosting 6,000 spectators, the Aquatics Centre will host water polo, diving, and synchronized swimming competitions, before being transformed into a boccia stadium for the Paralympics. It will also serve the local and national swimming community post-Games.
The construction phase, focused on sustainability with bio-based materials and solar energy infrastructure, was safeguarded by the WES3 fire alarm system. Its modular design required a flexible safety solution, which WES3 provided.

The system’s reliable fire detection and alert capabilities ensured a safe construction environment, contributing to the successful and timely completion of the project.
WES3’s deployment during the construction of these key Olympic venues highlights its critical role in providing advanced fire safety solutions. As Paris 2024 draws near, the successful implementation of WES3 ensures that the venues are built safely and efficiently, ready to welcome athletes and visitors.
