Delivering effective fire safety on large, high-rise construction sites requires systems that are flexible, reliable, and able to scale as the project evolves. At the Sea La Vie development on Yas Island, one of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent waterfront residential projects, these challenges were particularly pronounced. To support safe construction across multiple towers, the main contractor deployed the WES wireless fire alarm system, using the latest WES3 technology. This case study explores how WES enabled early fire detection, site-wide evacuation alerts, and operational visibility throughout the build programme.
Project Overview
Sea La Vie is a premium residential development located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The project comprises four luxury high-rise towers overlooking the waterfront and is being developed by Nine Yards. The main contractor, Züblin, was responsible for delivering the project safely while managing the complexity of simultaneous tower construction, changing site layouts, and increasing vertical height.
The Challenge
With multiple structures progressing at the same time, traditional wired fire alarm systems were not suitable. The project required a wireless fire alarm system that could adapt to changing site conditions without compromising protection.
Key challenges included:
- Providing instant site-wide evacuation alerts
- Monitoring high-risk areas, including COSHH and equipment storage zones
- Maintaining protection as towers increased in height
- Integrating fire safety into the project’s wider HSE strategy
I am very impressed with the WES system. The range is excellent, and because the installation is wireless, it is incredibly quick and simple to set up. It gives us the flexibility we need as the project evolves.
Mohammed Zahid, Fire Prevention Manager, Züblin
The Solution
Working alongside distribution partners Mimar and Cabco, Züblin implemented the WES wireless fire alarm system, manufactured by Ramtech. The system was selected for its proven performance on large construction sites and its ability to operate reliably in challenging environments.
In addition to manual call points for evacuation, the system incorporated wireless smoke detection in high-risk and unoccupied areas, including material storage and chemical storage zones. This ensured fires could be detected early and escalated to site management before conditions worsened.
Operational Insight from the Site
Fire safety oversight on the project was led by Muhammad Zahid, Fire Prevention Manager for Züblin, who highlighted the practical advantages of adopting a wireless approach.
“I am very impressed with the WES system. The range is excellent, and because the installation is wireless, it is incredibly quick and simple to set up. It gives us the flexibility we need as the project evolves. Fire safety is a core part of our HSE plan, and the system is covered in all site inductions so everyone understands how it works. The ease of use has been a real benefit for our safety team.” — Mohammed Zahid, Fire Prevention Manager, Züblin

Key Benefits Achieved
The deployment of the WES wireless fire alarm system delivered clear operational benefits:
- Rapid deployment with minimal disruption to construction activities
- 24/7 monitoring of high-risk and unoccupied areas
- Scalability, allowing devices to be relocated or added as the site evolved
- Regulatory confidence, with fire safety fully embedded into HSE processes

Outcome
The implementation of the WES wireless fire alarm system delivered a compliant and scalable fire safety strategy that evolved alongside the project. As construction progressed and tower heights increased, fire detection and evacuation coverage remained consistent, with no loss of protection during phased works.
Site-wide alarm interconnection ensured that any fire event triggered clear warning across all relevant areas, reducing reliance on local detection and supporting a coordinated response. The addition of real-time alerting provided site management with improved visibility of fire events, enabling faster decision-making and more effective control of site operations.
Overall, the solution supported safer working conditions, reinforced regulatory confidence, and enabled the contractor to maintain effective fire safety management across a complex, high-rise waterfront development.
Conclusion
The Sea La Vie development demonstrates how a wireless fire alarm system can support safe, compliant construction on complex, high-rise sites. By adopting the WES system, Züblin achieved reliable fire detection, site-wide evacuation capability, and the flexibility required to manage a dynamic build environment.
This project highlights how modern wireless fire detection plays a critical role in protecting people, assets, and programme delivery on landmark developments across the Middle East.
