Wireless Fire Alarm and Emergency System for Construction Sites

Protect your people and property with WES

To help mitigate the risks of damage and to ensure staff are kept safe, the installation of site-wide evacuation and emergency alarm system is necessary. WES3 is a fully customizable, wireless system that has been developed and engineered to provide a simple, fast, and secure method of communicating fire and medical emergencies in the complex environmental conditions of construction sites.

The WES3 Wireless Evacuation and Emergency System is comprised of several different types of units for optimum protection including smoke and heat sensors, call points, interface units and are radio-linked so that they can be monitored at all hours for complete peace of mind, even when the site is closed. With no wires or cords to install, each unit can be placed unobtrusively according to the site’s unique monitoring needs. This is a system that can grow with your site, adding more units as construction progresses.

Originally developed for use on construction sites, we have seen success using this technology in:

When 6.5 million construction workers report to work on 252,000 jobsites each day in the United States, they do so under the assumption that certain safeguards are in place in order to protect them. Their families are counting on it, too. The expectation is that no matter where a worker is onsite or what job they may be carrying out that day, they’ll be alerted and have the ability to alert others when—not if—an emergency occurs. With the rate of injuries, illnesses, and fatalities higher in the construction industry than most other industries, emergencies are (sadly) an inevitable part of the regular routine. It makes good sense to have an adaptable, durable, highly functional alert system in place from the first phase of construction to the last.

The statistics for construction fires are harsh; the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that for each year between 2013 and 2017 there were 3,840 fires in structures under construction and 2,580 fires in structures under major renovation per year. These fires led to $408 million in direct property damage, claimed 12 lives, and injured 101.

There are many causes of fire on construction sites. The leading sources include:

How WES3 Protects construction projects

Traditional protection systems like sprinklers and firewalls are disabled or not yet installed. Construction sites are also prime targets for theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry and arson which inevitably puts projects, lives and communities at risk. Early detection is the key to protecting and safeguarding your jobsite, workers, and surrounding properties. A few air horns and fire extinguishers may not be enough to mitigate a fire before it gets out of control. Having an emergency alert and evacuation system such as WES3 Evacuation and Emergency system in place can save lives.

WES3 system comprises manual alarm call points that are installed on site in accordance with the project’s Fire Plan. These call points are designed so that the system is interlinked, meaning that all areas receive the same audible and visual alert signal, even if the fire is contained to just one of them. Incorporating heat or smoke sensors into the system provides automatic cover 24/7, ensuring that your construction site is protected even when personnel are not present. The WES system works on a mesh protocol which enables the system to overcome signal obstacles such as steel structures and other signal interferences, therefore offering advanced protection. When coupled with REACT, all relevant personnel will be notified immediately via text message from anywhere, on site or off, if an alarm is activated.

WES3 System Components

WES3 Connect

Primary control units for the WES3 network. CONNECT includes latest functionality and 4G connectivity. Enables full management and real-time diagnostics for any connected units. An accurate log of all system events can be downloaded via USB to allow robust reporting of on-site issues. CONNECT and Emergency Control Units can be used together if required.

WES3 Call Point

Manual Call Point allows an evacuation alarm to be raised from any unit on site, to initiate a site-wide alarm (or activate optional pre-alarm function). It also includes Medical Alert.

WES3 Smoke Sensor

Unique to WES, the dust resistant sensor with dual optic technology minimises risk of false alarms and provides 24/7 protection in unoccupied areas of site or overnight/weekends.

WES3 Heat Sensor

Used as part of a site-wide sensor system, this 24/7 technology is suitable for areas such as kitchens or similar areas with an increased risk of false alarms.

WES3 Interface

Allows WES to be seamlessly integrated with third party systems, such as independent or permanent wired fire alarms, turnstiles, lifts, gas monitors etc.

Ramtech - WES Unit Building Plan

Easy set up that requires no special tools or expertise. Protection that is ready when you are.

The units that make up the WES3 system can be deployed as soon as the building is out of the ground. Setup is quick and easy – it takes just a few minutes for your units to be a network on active duty protecting your site and workers.

Each WES3 unit can be mounted almost anywhere – from work trailers and utility poles to walls, ceilings, roofs, towers and skids. The fully customizable system means units can be set out in the configuration that best meets the ever-changing needs of a site – allowing total compliance with existing fire plans – and to cover all vulnerable areas, such as stairways, elevator shafts, and docks.

The system is also completely reusable. When a job is finished, the units can be easily taken down and transported to the next construction site – with no additional fees for installers, extra equipment to purchase, or wires to remove.

WES3 wireless vs. hand-held air horn evacuation - what is the difference?

Sites across North America are still using the hand-held air horn as a safety device warning of fires and similar incidents. By modern standards, this is sub-standard. Deploying the WES evacuation and emergency system on a construction job site vs. the air horn has so many advantages. Let’s look at some differences:

WES AIR HORN
Full site wide evacuation at the push of a button Yes No
Addressable system so you know where the activiation took place Yes No
Ability to add in heat and smoke sensors giving 24 hour protection Yes No
Visual as well as audible alarm. Distinguishable above background sounds Yes No
Medical call feature giving extra functionality Yes No
